What page extraction means
Extracting copies the pages you choose into a single new PDF. The original document stays complete and unchanged on your device; you simply get a smaller file containing only what you selected, saved as extracted- plus the original name. Pages are copied as they are, so text remains selectable and quality is unchanged.
You can select pages two ways, and they stay in sync: tap the numbered tiles, or type pages and ranges such as 1-3, 5, 8-10.
When to extract pages
- Sharing one chapter or section of a long report, manual or textbook.
- Pulling a form out of a larger pack. Application packs and contracts often bundle a few pages you actually need to sign or submit.
- Sending only the relevant statement pages — for example, the pages that show a particular transaction.
- Creating a handout from selected slides exported as PDF.
- Fixing page order — see the tip about typed order below.
How to extract pages from a PDF
- Add the PDF. One numbered tile appears per page.
- Select the pages to keep. Tap tiles, or type into the box — e.g.
4-9for a chapter, or2, 5, 11for scattered pages. - Confirm the count. The line under the tiles shows how many pages are selected.
- Extract and download the new PDF, then open it to check it contains what you expect.
Extraction vs deletion vs splitting
| Tool | You choose | You get | Best when |
|---|---|---|---|
| Extract PDF Pages | Pages to keep | One new PDF | You need a small part of a large document |
| Delete PDF Pages | Pages to remove | One new PDF | You need almost everything except a few pages |
| Split PDF | Groups of pages | Several PDFs | A document must become multiple files |
Typed order is kept — so you can reorder pages
When you type pages, the new PDF follows the order you type. 5, 1-4, 6-10 moves page 5 to the front. This is the simplest way on this site to fix a document whose pages are out of sequence. You can even repeat a page (1, 1) if you need a duplicate.
Tapping tiles rewrites the box in ascending order, so if you want a custom order, type it last and don't tap tiles afterwards.
Page numbers are file positions
Number 1 is the first page of the file, not necessarily the page printed as "1". Confirm positions using your PDF reader's page counter.
Tips
- Extract before you merge. Building a submission from several documents? Extract the relevant pages from each, then combine them with Merge PDF.
- Check what else is on the pages. Extraction shares the whole page. If a page you're sending contains information the recipient shouldn't see, extraction alone won't hide it.
- Name the result clearly. Rename the download to something like
lease-signature-pages.pdfso the recipient knows what it is.
Common problems
- My custom page order was lost
- Tapping a tile after typing re-sorts the selection into ascending order. Type your order in the box as the final step.
- "Couldn't understand …" or "… is outside 1–N"
- Use numbers, hyphens and commas only (
1-3, 7), and keep numbers within the page count shown under the file name. - The Extract button is greyed out
- No pages are selected yet. Tap at least one tile or type a valid page.
- The file won't load
- It may be damaged or password-protected. If you're entitled to it, save an unprotected copy first.
Extract PDF Pages FAQ
No. The selected pages are copied into a new PDF by JavaScript in your browser, on your device. The file is not sent to our server.
No. The original is only read. You download a separate new file containing the selected pages.
Yes. Type the pages in the order you want — for example 3, 1, 2 — and the new PDF follows that order. Tapping tiles afterwards re-sorts the list ascending.
Extract always produces one new PDF from the pages you choose. Split produces several PDFs, one for each page or range group.
One file at a time. Extract from each document, then combine the results with Merge PDF.
The page content is copied, but interactive form fields may not work in the new file. Fill in the form in the original first, or check the extracted copy in your PDF reader.
